The Role
The Nurse Unit Manager Level 1 (NUM1) in the Emergency Department at Prince of Wales Hospital provides clinical leadership and operational management to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care within a fast-paced emergency environment. The role is responsible for leading, supporting, and developing nursing staff through effective supervision, performance management, education, and fostering a culture of accountability and evidence-based practice.
The NUM1 coordinates multidisciplinary collaboration, manages day-to-day departmental operations and patient flow, oversees resource allocation and clinical governance activities, and leads quality improvement and organisational change initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and achieve departmental and organisational objectives.
Where You'll be Working
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. POWH provides an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes as a result of the provision of person-centred care.

Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
* Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse/ Midwife.
* Relevant management tertiary qualification and/or ED management work experience, with a demonstrated commitment to professional development
* Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to lead a team with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice and person-centred practice.
* Demonstrated knowledge and recent clinical experience in the management and delivery of Emergency health care services
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills that demonstrate the ability to engage, enable and manage teams.
* Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care and managing change.
* Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills
