The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Underwriting team in Sydney. Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, this role works both independently and collaboratively with senior leaders, cross‑functional teams, and operational peers to deliver meaningful outcomes for the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Underwrite and process new business and renewal applications for Doctors and Practice Insurance, ensuring accuracy and adherence to delegated authorities.
* Prepare and issue standard and non-standard quotes, premium loadings, discounts and cover confirmations in line with guidelines.
* Provide technical underwriting advice to the Marketing & Growth and Customer Service and Support teams.
* Manage and maintain relationships with larger Practice insurance accounts.
* Support Business Development Advisors with enquiries, quotations and portfolio growth activities.
* Utilise internal systems effectively to ensure efficient processing and record maintenance.
* Assist with general administrative duties including maintaining files, supporting internal teams, and contributing to departmental projects.
What we're looking for
* Success in this role comes from strong collaboration, clear communication, and the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. We're seeking someone who brings:
* Experience in insurance, underwriting or broking (ideally within medical or professional indemnity)
* Knowledge and understanding of policy, endorsements and insurance legislation
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships
* Experience in dealing with medical practitioners and medical practices would be highly advantageous
* Hold and maintain Tier 2 education level as per ASIC PS146 Licensing: Training of financial product advisors
