The Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager – Water Infrastructure to join our growing team. This high‐profile, client‐facing role will suit a collaborative leader with strong technical depth and proven design management capability.
Leveraging your extensive experience in wastewater treatment and/or networks, you will combine engineering design excellence with effective project and stakeholder management to lead complex, multidisciplinary outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
With a minimum of 15+ years' experience, your responsibilities will include:
* Providing technical oversight of engineering design packages
* Leading the technical delivery of a major project or program
* Building and sustaining strong, effective relationships with clients and delivery partners
* Coordinating and guiding multidisciplinary design teams
* Representing SMEC as a proactive advisor committed to creating positive impact
About You
You will have a proven track record in a similar role within an engineering design consultancy, coupled with a passion for building trusted relationships with clients and delivery partners.
You will bring:
* Minimum 15+ years' experience
* Strong local experience delivering designs and design management for wastewater treatment plants and/or wastewater networks.
* Familiarity with design and construction, and alliance delivery models.
* Proven commercial acumen, including the ability to manage program scope, budgets, risk, and client expectations
* Extensive experience coordinating and delivering complex multidisciplinary engineering designs
* Strong track record in managing interfaces with clients, contractors, regulators, and key stakeholders
* Highly developed communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust and lead confidently in client‐facing environments
