Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Resident Medical Officer for General Rotations to join the team at Concord Hospital and Network 3
What You Will Be Doing
This position is open to qualified candidates who will have completed 12 months medical clinical experience in a hospital setting and who are interested in undertaking general rotations for their PGY 2 year in 2025. You will be involved in providing effective medical services to patients under supervision in a complex clinical environment. As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will deal with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to your skills, knowledge and experience. You will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management under the guidance of and at the discretion of the Attending Medical Officer.
This role is ideal for those with an interest in general medicine, critical care or those who wish to further their experience in an acute care setting in preparation for Critical Care, GP, or BPT training. Rotations through areas of internal medicine will provide exposure to both inpatient and outpatient care for patients with conditions requiring sub-specialty care.
Rotations for Terms 2 to 5 will include Nights Relief, General Medicine Broken Hill Hospital, Dermatology, Colorectal Surgery, Haematology, Palliative Care or Emergency Medicine.
Network 3 general rotations include Concord, Canterbury and Broken Hill Base Hospitals.
Where You Will Be Working
Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We offer a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as Centre's of excellence. Major services include colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine, bone and joint services, cancer services, haematology, respiratory medicine and sleep studies, molecular biology and genetics, and those provided through the internationally acknowledged Statewide Burns Service, in which Concord plays a major part. Concord Hospital maintains string links to the veteran community.
Broken Hill Hospital is a rural teaching hospital, providing a 10-bed Emergency Department as well as general medical, surgical, obstetric, paediatric, dialysis, oncology unit and acute mental health beds, operating theatres, specialist palliative care, intensive and coronary care units. Support services include radiology and pathology departments, as well as a wide range of allied and primary health services. Inpatient beds: 27 medical acute beds including palliative care priority beds, 21 surgical beds, 5 ICU/CCU beds, 6 maternity beds, 6 paediatric beds, 6 mental health inpatient beds, 10 sub acute rehabilliation beds, 6 dialysis chairs, 3 operating theatres and 3 recovery beds, 2 Special Care Nursery Level 2 cots.
Canterbury Hospital is a metropolitan acute general hospital which has provided care for our community since 1929. We offer emergency medicine, general surgery and medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, aged care, rehabilitation, palliative care and outpatient services. Canterbury Hospital was redeveloped in 1998 to expand the range of services offered to include a community health centre, Tresillian Family Care Centre, a specialised after hours General Practice service and drug health clinic. In December 2020, works were completed on a $6.5 million upgrade to the Emergency Department. Canterbury Hospital is right in the heart of the network of hospitals and services which make up Sydney Local Health District.
