Details: The Restorative Justice Unit (RJU) provides innovative and voluntary restorative justice services to people harmed by crime, those responsible, and their communities, helping them work toward healing. This often involves a facilitated meeting (conference) between those most affected by an offence. Careful assessment, preparation and facilitation ensure a safe, productive environment to discuss what happened, how people were affected, and how to make things better. In doing so, the RJU aims to:

* Support people who have been harmed by crime, provide a forum for their voice, and empower them to have their post-crime needs met
* Repair and strengthen supportive relationships for both persons harmed and persons responsible
* Encourage responsibility-taking by persons responsible
* Identify outcomes which are forward-looking, and which address the interests and needs of persons harmed.

The Convenor plays an integral role by facilitating the restorative justice process, initiating contact with participants, and working with them collaboratively to identify needs, interests and responsibilities. Where suitable, the Convenor prepares participants for a safe and meaningful conference and monitors any agreements that arise to support persons responsible to address the harm caused.

The RJU is seeking candidates who understand the criminal justice system and its impacts on victims and offenders, can apply trauma-informed practices and restorative justice and human rights principles. The successful candidate will have frontline experience in a criminal justice agency and experience in justice-related group facilitation. The role requires high integrity, strong ethics, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent analysis and judgement in managing complex situations.
