Volunteer Veterinarian - Management Committee Member
About Us
Angel-Paws Inc. is a Townsville-based dog and cat rescue charity. We operate a lean model with a small team of paid staff and a large cohort of volunteer contributors and foster carers.
Clinically, we engage casual veterinarians and a vet nurse to ensure all animals are vet-checked, parasite treated, microchipped and desexed.
We also operate our own spay clinic 1-2 days per week and partner with councils and other organisations on animal welfare initiatives across the region.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a North Queensland based small animal veterinarian to join our Management Committee and contribute to our clinical governance oversight.
Our committee operates much like a Board, with responsibilities under the Incorporated Associations Act.
This role offers an opportunity to build your governance profile while contributing to a meaningful venture.
It is primarily a governance role, but given our limited resources, there will initially be some engagement with operations to help shape and strengthen our clinical practices.
Your Contribution
* Provide clinical insight and guidance to inform committee decisions
* Support decision making on animal welfare and quality of life matters
* Contribute to the development of clinical and rescue policies and procedures
* Provide oversight and input into the recruitment, induction and training of clinical staff
* Be available for occasional advice on emerging or complex animal matters
* Support community education and advocacy where appropriate
Your Commitment
* Attend our 2‐hour monthly online management committee meetings
* Attend any necessary special meetings as required and the annual AGM
* Periodically review materials and committee input outside of scheduled meetings
About You
* Qualified (or recently retired) small animal veterinarian with contemporary knowledge
* Interested in contributing at a governance level
* Practical, collaborative and able to balance oversight with operational realities
* Meets eligibility requirements under the Act (i.e., not being disqualified or bankrupt)
Why Join Us
* Play a key role in shaping animal welfare practices in the region
* Build your governance and board‐level experience
* Contribute your experience in a meaningful and flexible way
* Be part of a passionate, community‐driven volunteer association
