About the Role
This is more than a clinical shift – it’s a leadership post where you’ll set standards, influence outcomes, and help shape the future of anaesthetic care.
You’ll work across complex cases, support smooth list management, and act as a resource to junior staff and VMOs. Alongside clinical delivery, you’ll carry a professional portfolio, help embed evidence-based practice, and act as the Team Leader or Clinical Manager when required.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Delivering safe, expert direct anaesthetic nursing care and modelling clinical excellence
- Leading theatre shifts and acting in-charge when delegated
- Mentoring and supporting graduate nurses, students, and early-career staff
- Acting as preceptor and educator, increasing awareness of specialty-specific skills
- Liaising with anaesthetists, VMOs and the wider surgical team to ensure list efficiency
- Managing anaesthetic equipment, medications and resources effectively
- Participating in policy development, documentation audits, and infection control compliance
- Holding a leadership portfolio and tracking outcomes against key performance indicators
- Contributing to hospital-wide committees, audits, and continuous improvement projects
- Participating in quality, safety and risk activities, with a focus on clinical governance
- Upholding WHS responsibilities and actively supporting organisational values and culture
- Promoting respectful communication, advocacy, and patient-centred decision-making

What You Need to Apply
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum two years’ post-graduate experience in anaesthetic or perioperative nursing
- Strong technical knowledge in anaesthetic nursing, including relevant protocols and guidelines
- Confidence managing theatre workflows and acting in a leadership capacity
- Familiarity with ACORN standards, ANZCA guidelines, and clinical governance expectations
- Competency in documentation, patient advocacy, and team collaboration
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Sound clinical judgement and calm, professional conduct under pressure
- Competence using electronic health records and basic computer systems
- Commitment to ongoing education, training and reflective practice
- Experience or willingness to contribute to research, portfolio management, or audits
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualifications in perioperative nursing or management (or working towards)
