Join the Family Advocacy Unit at North West Hospital and Health Service as a Trauma Counsellor (HP4) and provide specialist, trauma‐informed counselling and advocacy for victim‐survivors of sexual assault. This role offers a high level of clinical autonomy, strong multidisciplinary collaboration, and the opportunity to influence service pathways across Mount Isa and remote communities.
About the Role
As a Trauma Counsellor within the Family Advocacy Unit, you will deliver advanced, evidence‐based trauma counselling and advocacy services to victim‐survivors of sexual assault across acute and post‐acute settings. You will manage complex, high‐risk presentations with confidence, cultural humility, and a strong commitment to client‐led practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver specialist trauma‐informed counselling, assessment, risk management, and case coordination for individuals impacted by sexual assault and other complex trauma.
* Exercise advanced clinical judgement and autonomy in managing high‐risk and ambiguous presentations, including coordination of forensic and non‐forensic sexual assault pathways.
* Provide advocacy and navigation for clients across health, forensic, legal, police, and community systems, in line with client choice and consent.

* Eligible health practitioners working in designated remote areas entitled to a professional development allowance of $3,512.00 per annum.

Qualifications
* Relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences.
* C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
* Mandatory working‐with‐children check from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000.
* Pre‐employment screening including criminal history checks.
* May require evidence of vaccination or immunity to selected diseases.
* Probation period may apply.
