**POSITION PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE**

This position plays an important role in the maintenance and operations of infrastructure
within the Transport and Public access service for the City. It is required undertake general
labouring duties in relation to the construction and maintenance of Council's assets and
infrastructure as directed, in a safe and efficient manner.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Perform manual labouring duties associated with maintenance and operations

following safe work practices and procedures including but not limited to, pothole
patching, sealing, repair or replacement of roadside furniture (including signs and
guideposts), footpath maintenance and construction, kerb and gutter, concreting,
drainage and stormwater pipes.
- Operate small plant and equipment following safe work practices and procedures and

inaccordance with operating instructions.
- Ensure safe work practices including the development and implementation of safe

work method statements, risk assessments, injury and incident reporting and any other
work health and safety requirements/obligations under the Work Health and Safety
Act.
- Control traffic at worksites, including the placement of signs, lights and barriers, in

accordance with relevant legislative requirements and standards.
- Complete paperwork (including timesheets) accurately and within required

timeframes.
- Provide effective and consistency delivery of service to Council customers, internal

and the community
- Attend training as required
- Present a positive image of Council
- Use/operate plant, tools and equipment in a range of circumstances associated with

maintenance and operations
- Undertake routine check and basic maintenance to ensure all plant, tools and

equipment are kept in a serviceable and safe working condition at all times
- Use a range of hand tools
- Perform other duties as required

**Workplace Health & Safety**

Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are
not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your
Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative);
never performing a task that you believe is dangerous or for which you do not have the
experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and training or where the correct
equipment to carry out the task safely is not available; always work in a safe manner and
in accordance with safety instructions, where applicable; use the work equipment supplied
for the job, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions), and any personal
protective equipment, which the Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety
aware and report any actions to your line manager which will assist the Council to meet
its legal workplace health and safety obligations.
