About the Role:

Danila Dilba is seeking a Senior Policy Officer to support a collaboration of Darwin Aboriginal-controlled organisations that are committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal families in line with Closing the Gap and the underlying premise that when Aboriginal people have a genuine say in policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved. The collaboration will advocate for approaches that support the strengths and capacity of families in the region. While the collaborative is looking across issues important to strong families, children and young people, there is a particular focus on advocacy for policy and programs that aim to prevent family and domestic violence and to support families exposed to such violence. The work will contribute to all 4 Closing the Gap priority reform areas and advocate for those priority reforms in the context of its work on outcomes for families, children and young people.

The Senior Policy Officer will be critical in supporting the voice of the collaboration by undertaking research and analysis to make sure that voice is soundly based in evidence.

What You Need to Succeed

* Extensive experience in policy or advocacy, preferably in areas relevant to family strengthening in the Aboriginal context, such as family and domestic violence, family support, community services, health or legal issues.
* Demonstrated understanding of the social and well‑being issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a commitment to Aboriginal self‑determination.
* Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret policy, identify relevant best practice, synthesise complex information, and develop evidence‑based recommendations.
* Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated experience preparing submissions, reports, and briefing materials for diverse audiences.
* Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with Aboriginal organisations and communities, government, and legal stakeholders.
* Capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
