About the Opportunity:
The primary purpose of the Residential Support Worker (RSW) role is to support young people and create a safe, respectful, and stable home environment while they are on remand. RSWs mentor young people to engage in daily routines, make healthy life choices, take responsibility, and comply with their bail conditions.

This is a permanent role offering a variety of shifts, including day, afternoon, and overnight, within a 24/7 service environment.

When there are no young people residing in the bail house, RSWs transition into a community-based role focused on youth mentoring, community engagement, and stakeholder relationship-building. This ensures the role remains active, meaningful, and outward-facing, supporting Hope Community Services’ broader mission of increasing visibility and impact in the community.

Residential Support Workers must be responsive and ready to transition back into residential duties at short notice when a young person enters the service. This readiness is a key component of the role, balanced by the rewarding opportunity to work in community settings, build strong local connections, and contribute to positive long-term outcomes for young people.

• Provide consistent support and mentorship to young people in the residential service, helping them meet their bail conditions, engage in pro-social activities, and work toward personal goals.

• Promote healthy lifestyle choices by offering opportunities for participation in recreational, cultural, and wellbeing activities.

• Provide safe and reliable transport for young people to attend appointments, programs, or community-based engagements as required.

• Support supervised family visits where approved and appropriate, in ways that maintain safety, dignity, and connection.

• Engage in youth mentoring and community connection work during times when there are no young people in residence, contributing to visibility of the service and development of community relationships.

• Remain flexible and responsive, ready to transition into residential duties when a young person enters the service.
