Hampton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint an innovative and collaborative Student Support Coordinator to take a lead role in supporting staff, students and parents to manage the complexities of student mental health.

Hampton SHS strives to create a vibrant culture of excellence, innovation, opportunity and success for students. The focus of our work is on quality teaching and provision of the widest range of opportunities for individual achievement and learning success.

Hampton SHS vision is to develop culturally responsive, high impact educators who foster student aspiration, innovation and achievement. We are continuing on our improvement focus with our strong culture of collaboration and consistently high expectation of standards for staff and students. Our journey of school excellence places great importance on enhancing the conditions for learning through our well‐resourced Student Services Team and other pastoral care strategies.

The Role

The Student Support Coordinator would work closely with Year Coordinators to strengthen coordination practices and build staff capacity across the school. This role supports the development of best practice while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures. The successful applicant will ideally contribute to expanding existing skill sets by sharing knowledge and increasing the use of both individual and team strategy banks. Mentoring, consultation and guidance around case management would be provided to support Year Coordinators in responding to complex student needs. Ongoing support following professional learning would also be offered to assist staff in consolidating knowledge and implementing effective strategies within their practice.

The successful applicants will ideally be able to work effectively within a professional learning community, engaged in providing highly effective direction and support for staff and students. The successful applicant should also display leadership within whole school initiatives. The Student Support Coordinator would contribute to the planning and delivery of key school events such as the Parent Expo and Body Kind. Leadership in programs aligned with Respectful Relationships also form an important part of this role. Through these responsibilities, the coordinator should help strengthen a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture for students and families.

A significant component of the role involves leadership in case management. The Student Support Coordinator would collaborate closely with Student Services Managers to support coordinated and effective case management processes. Guidance should be provided to student services staff in the development and implementation of behaviour plans using Prevent‐Teach‐Reinforce (PTR). Problem solving consultation should be available for staff, particularly for beginning Year Coordinators who may require additional support in managing complex cases. The coordinator would actively assist Year Coordinators in planning processes for students and should provide guidance on appropriate referrals to external agencies where additional support may be required. Part of the role includes the maintenance of a key function in crisis management to ensure coordinated, timely and supportive responses to critical incidents involving students.

The successful applicant will ideally have considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of pastoral care, alternative support agencies and pathways, education programs and/or behaviour/risk management planning. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are highly desirable to succeed in this role.
