Primary objective
Provide strategic advice across a wide range of policy issues to the Chief Minister, senior management at the Department
of the Chief Minister and Cabinet, and government agencies, as well as co-ordinate inter-agency, whole-of-Government
engagement in policy development and project implementation.
Context statement
The Strategic Policy and Delivery Division supports Ministers and Cabinet to define and deliver high priority strategic policy
and reform initiatives, through leadership and coordination at the Territory level. There is a particular focus on activities
supporting the Government's priorities to rebuild the economy, reduce crime, restore the Territory lifestyle and improve
outcomes for communities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare Cabinet Submissions, briefings and correspondence on a broad range of policy issues.
2. Work collaboratively across government, the non-government sector and the community in responding to policy issues
and supporting whole of government reporting and administration, including of grants.
3. Research and prepare position papers, including the development of options on strategic policy issues.
4. Project management of ongoing and identified research and policy projects.
5. Provide timely and comprehensive support to update, enhance and maintain whole of government strategic reporting.
6. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely collection and collation of data and information.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience managing policy projects, including the ability to establish priorities and meet competing
deadlines.
2. Experience in data management, reporting, or grant management and administration.
3. Well developed oral and written communication skills and experience in preparing briefings or reports for a wide range
of audiences in plain English, including an ability to clearly and concisely convey technical information.
4. Demonstrated experience in policy research, critical analysis and provision of high-level advice, demonstrating strong
conceptual and analytical skills.
5. Proven ability to work cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders; and an ability to interact effectively with
people from diverse cultures.
6. Sound knowledge and understanding of contemporary and strategic issues facing the Northern Territory and of
government policies and strategies to address these issues.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position, including Project Management or Public Policy.
