Animal Ranger
Salary:$78,424.32 per annum (plus industry allowance) Closing: Friday 29 August 2025 Full time - Permanent
Applications are invited from those who are passionate about animal management and welfare *for the permanent position of Animal Ranger.*
We are seeking applicants who embrace our animal management values and can deliver quality customer service through innovation and collaboration. Working closely with the community, Animal Rangers are primarily responsible for:
* providing customers with a range of animal management services and functions including the application of the Domestic Animal Management Plan and Emergency Animal Welfare Plan;
* promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare by conducting animal management education and enforcement duties in accordance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, Council policies, procedures and internal plans;
* Conduct and/or assist in the investigation of legislation breaches, issue infringements, notices and warnings, collate evidence and prepare reports for legal proceedings;
* handling and capture of a variety of domestic animals including dogs, cats and livestock;
* promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare standards;
* protecting the community and environment from feral, nuisance or wandering domestic animals and livestock; and
* assist with the operation of the Shepparton Animal Shelter.
To be successful within the dynamic animal management team, you will:
* have the ability to interpret and apply legislation and have sound judgement and decision making when undertaking various law enforcement activities;
* have best practice animal handling skills and/or the ability to learn and apply;
* be an innovative team player whilst having the flexibility to adapt to new processes and procedures; and
* be committed to delivering excellent customer service and community education within the community.
It is a prerequisite of this position that the incumbent holds and maintains a current Victorian Drivers Licence, National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
Relevant qualifications and/or experience in animal management, animal welfare, veterinary, law enforcement or community education will be highly regarded.
At times this role is required to work outside normal business hours including responding to declared emergencies with compensation as per the Greater Shepparton Enterprise Agreement.
