About the Role

You'll be working closely with the editorial team at The Standard to source, break, and write breaking news and community stories, producing work that directly supports the south‐west Victorian community. This is a hands‐on role that offers both independence and collaboration, with space to grow your skills and career. You will cover everything from local court reporting, council issues to human‐interest pieces, ensuring our audience remains informed across both print and digital platforms.

What You'll Bring

• Strong skills in clear, accurate news writing, sub‐editing, and shorthand/audio recording.
• Passion for storytelling, local community advocacy, and digital‐first journalism.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‐paced, deadline‐driven newsroom environment.
• Confidence using content management systems (CMS), digital reporting tools, and social media platforms to engage readers.
• Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline, alongside a valid driver's licence.
