About the Role An exciting opportunity is available to lead a passionate, high performing team dedicated to supporting improvement of teaching practice and student outcomes in Victorian government schools. The role of Manager of the Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Unit is responsible for: * management of a dynamic team * development of strategic papers and provision of advice to executives as well as internal and external stakeholders * leadership of policy, guidance and resources development in curriculum, assessment and reporting * management of governance groups to work effectively and collaboratively on enhancing curriculum and assessment advice * leadership of project management, including achievement of milestones, anticipating, communicating and resolving emerging issues and mitigating risks. This role calls for strong subject matter expertise, excellent people and stakeholder management skills, experience with leading multiple projects and/or programs and development of policies, the ability to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and exemplary attention to detail. This is a fixed term full-time opportunity until 29 June 2027 within the Department of Education's central office, located at 200-220 Victoria Parade East Melbourne. The successful applicant will: * bring high levels of subject matter expertise in curriculum and/or assessment (preferably both) and student reporting, with a focus on school education * have demonstrated expertise and experience in designing and implementing effective policies and providing advice and guidance to schools * have demonstrated expertise and experience in successfully managing a diverse program of work * bring excellent written communication skills and the ability to adapt these to different audiences * possess exemplary interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to apply such skills effectively with stakeholders across the department and government * be able to provide evidence-informed, and empowering leadership to staff in the unit, and contribute more broadly to leadership across the division * model flexibility, adaptability and the capacity to work in a dynamic environment, where priorities may change. Desirable Qualifications and Experience * Experience in managing policies and projects is required. * A relevant education tertiary qualification and/or experience in education is required. * Victorian Public Service experience is desirable. About us The Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Unit (CARU): * Works closely with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) to develop implementation guidance and practical supports for schools regarding the Victorian Curriculum Foundation to 10. * Leads the policy design and development of implementation guidance for both student assessment and reporting of student achievement and progress against the Victorian Curriculum achievement standards. * Supports assessment of student learning in mathematics through provision, quality assurance and enhancement of online assessment tools (on the Insight Assessment Platform) including the Mathematics Online Interview (MOI) and Fractions and Decimals Online Interview (FDOI), along with providing guidance on their use. The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration.
