HD Mechanic Leading Hand | Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic | Perth Based
Allwest Plant Hire Australia is seeking an experienced HD Mechanical Supervisor / Leading Hand to join our team in Forrestdale. As a key member of our workshop crew, you will be required to lead and supervise the workshop team whilst overseeing the planning of repairs and maintenance to the fleet. This hands‐on leadership role will involve delegating tasks, supervising and mentoring our dynamic team.

You will have:
* An Australian recognised Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic Trade Qualification and Construction Induction card (White Card)
* Unlimited Australian work rights (no restrictions)
* Minimum 3 years experience in a supervisory role with a thorough approach to quality assurance, ensuring every aspect of the machinery is accurately assessed and reported on the checklists
* Passion about all things mechanical with an ability to think fast and critically to assist in diagnosing complex mechanical problems
* Solid knowledge of Heavy Duty Equipment with experience working on all types of earthmoving equipment: Excavators, Loaders, Watercarts, Moxys, Graders, Skid Steers, Dozers, Rollers
* Hands‐on approach with excellent communication and demonstration skills
* Competency and compliance in routine maintenance on machines
* Valid driver's licence (HR preferred), and your own tools
* Forklift experience and a valid High-risk work licence (Essential)
* Refrigerant Handling Licence preferred but not essential; knowledge of Aircon refrigerant handling and willingness to complete licensing requirements
* Ability to work autonomously in a fast‐paced environment with strong organisational and time‐management skills
* Must pass a Medical, including a Drug & Alcohol test
* A strong commitment to safety and teamwork
Role responsibilities:
* Lead and coordinate a team (12-15), interacting with a variety of skill levels – 1st year Apprentices up to Senior Mechanic
* Provide leadership, support and mentorship to all team members to enhance their growth and development
* Ability to liaise with the Workshop Manager, the General Manager and other departments as required
* An understanding of the fast pace of the hire industry and ability to quickly change tasks and priorities
* Oversee and conduct ongoing maintenance, service, and repair of a range of equipment including diagnosis and fault finding in an efficient and timely manner
* Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues ensuring minimal downtime
* Contribute to the ongoing development of the team and the management of the workshop and parts department
* Maintain the required standards for Work, Health and Safety ensuring regulations are met and acknowledged
