Senior Principal Civil Engineer - Water Infrastructure

About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically accomplished Senior Principal Civil Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of major water infrastructure projects across Australia. Based in Melbourne, you will join a global Tier-1 consultancy renowned for delivering complex, sustainable, and future-ready infrastructure solutions.
This is a senior leadership role that combines deep technical expertise with project leadership, client engagement, and mentoring responsibilities. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the civil engineering direction of large-scale water projects, including treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations, and integrated water systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and oversight on the civil design of major water infrastructure projects from concept through to detailed design and delivery.
* Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure integrated, high-quality outcomes.
* Act as a technical advisor and subject matter expert on large-scale water projects, ensuring compliance with Australian standards, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals.
* Support project directors and bid teams in winning new work, including technical input into proposals, client presentations, and design strategies.
* Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
* Engage with clients, utilities, and government agencies to build strong, long-term relationships and ensure alignment with project objectives.
* Contribute to innovation in digital engineering, climate resilience, and sustainable water infrastructure design.
About You
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
* 15+ years of experience in civil engineering with a strong focus on water infrastructure projects in Australia.
* Proven track record in leading the design and delivery of large-scale water projects, including treatment facilities, trunk mains, and pump stations.
* Strong understanding of local and national water authority standards and regulatory frameworks.
* Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and RPEQ (or ability to obtain) highly desirable.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Experience working within a global consultancy or multidisciplinary engineering environment is preferred.
