We're excited to welcome a new Heritage Consultant to join our team on a 12-month contract with strong potential to transition into a permanent role at our Wollongong office.

This is a junior to mid-level role for an ambitious individual eager to accelerate their career in heritage. You will work alongside experienced and highly knowledgeable colleagues who will guide and support you. Ideally you will have a Bachelor or Masters degree in Archaeology an interest in either Aboriginal or historical archaeology and 1-2 years industry experience to qualify for this position.

As part of the APEM Group Biosis is a team of expert consultants specialising in Aboriginal archaeology botany environmental approvals GIS historical archaeology historical heritage and zoology. We help clients navigate pre-planning planning and post-approvals for projects across Australia primarily in the eastern states. Since 1983 we have been guiding clients in making informed decisions about ecology heritage and environmental approvals.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop an understanding of site patterning land and site formation processes on the locations and survival of artefacts for both Aboriginal and historical sites.
* Be a key contributor to the preparation of Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs) heritage impacts statements and due diligence assessments.
* Lead and contribute to fieldwork projects across both Aboriginal and historical archaeological projects.
* Continue to develop skills in communication and consultation with relevant authorities communities clients landowners and the public in relation to own projects.
* Develop skills in technical report writing and understand the different types of reports required.
* Deliver projects on time within budget and meeting the clients requirements. Develop an understanding of and implementing Biosis high standards.
* Manage budgets for projects and develop skills in managing variations.
* Understand the current regulatory requirements their impact on our work and be able to explain to existing clients.


Qualifications

* An archaeology degree or a Masters in Archaeology or similar.
* 1-2 years experience.
* Demonstrated interest in Aboriginal and / or historical heritage.
* Relevant work experience in Aboriginal and / or historical heritage (preferred but not essential).
* Ability to work on site away from home and in remote locations if necessary.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* A current and valid drivers licence.
* You must have the right to work in Australia to apply for this job.
