Leonardo Australia\'s Electronics Division performs research, design, development, production, customer support and marketing of Leonardo\'s extensive range of Naval Communications in defence applications, predominately Naval.
The Australian subsidiary is a full-service operation undertaking business development, logistics management, assembly and maintenance and other related support functions. Leonardo Australia’s activities are concerned with equipment and system upgrades, capability enhancements, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications and deployed support to customer maintenance activities.
About the role
The Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Coordinator WA role will provide support with a specific focus on meeting the expectations of our clients and the wider project teams in Western Australia.
The role is accountable for providing operational outcomes focused on leading our health and Safety performance, readiness, resources and governance.
In addition to the primary accountabilities, you will also drive quality compliance and efficiency for our corporate operations and project execution level ensuring integration and application of the company’s policies, procedures, plans and processes.
The successful applicant will possess the expertise to demonstrate HSEQ leadership and stability within our business and externally to our customers and project sponsors.
This fast-paced role will lead the HSEQ targets and day-to-day operational activities ensuring our internal/external demands on the function are met and consistently exceeded.
The role includes but is not limited to, a broad commitment to all Leonardo Western Australia’s functions including production, administration, engineering, supply chain/logistics and training.
You will possess the ability to work autonomously towards our HSEQ targets, verify and validate the application and effectiveness of our current processes and work in a manner that consistently promotes continuous improvement.
Your time will be spilt across our operational facilities on Garden Island, Rockingham Head Office and various client sites in Henderson WA.

The HSEQ Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:
WHSE:
- Ensure our team works in accordance with all instructions, permits, test plans and risk assessments including (Take 5’s), assisting development for and understanding JHA’s.
- Improvement and maintenance of our HSEQ targets and objectives, and record keeping.
- Promote mental health and wellbeing into our operational practices.
- Instigate, execute and manage the businesses training needs.
- Assist with emergency response management/drills & reporting ICW the Chief Fire Warden.
- Maintain nominated first aid staffing, wardens and other HSEQ related positions.
- Schedule and deliver toolbox & safety meetings on a quarterly basis as a minimum.
- Complete and collate all WA sites safety inspection record management including action of hazard reports, reviews and manage rectification.
- Schedule and communicate the HSEQ audit schedule commitments.
- Attend Internal and External Safety Meetings as applicable.
- Undertake incident management, preparedness and record keeping.
- Facilitate staff onboarding activities for WA sites including inductions and PPE requirements.
- Support project teams to assess and meet site access requirements.
- Undertake notice board updates, company newsletters and shared resource calendar.
- Assist to maintain and manage the safety management system and compliance.
- Lead incident and hazard investigations, root cause analysis and timely close-out of actions.
Quality:
- Undertake document and form creation/modification, and QMS continuous improvements meeting or exceeding ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001), and client expectations.
- Management of the document control email inbox and formal document transmittal system.
- Manage and maintain the facilities tooling quarantine area.
- Support internal/external auditing, manage, maintain and action finding closures.
- Manage and maintain the master asset register including the calibrated equipment/registers.
- Manage and maintain our corporate and production electronic filing systems.
- Responsible for the physical archives management and storage/disposal.
- Manage and maintain Production Test Certificates.
- Creation, review and submission of project quality documentation.
Facilities:
- Track and maintain the teams passes/qualifications and resolve constraints once noticed.
- POC for HSEQ related 3rd party service contracts.
- Management of building – liaising with landlord and building related external agencies.
- Nominated POC for external visitors and clients.
- Point of Contact for any Quality and Safety matters with the WA operations, including regular liaison with the Quality and Safety department in Melbourne.
- Drive continuous improvements internally and escalate to managers.
- Prepare, edit and/or release correspondence, internal/external communications, presentations and other documents.
- Promote a proactive safety culture that reduce risk, prevent incidents, improves health, safety, environmental and quality outcomes.
- Complete and maintain any required site inductions and/or security clearances.
Formal Education / Certification & Clearance Requirements:
- Must possess or be eligible to apply and achieve an Australian Defence Security Clearance (min Baseline) or NV1 Australian Security Clearance.
- Clean National Police Clearance, or ability to obtain.
- Full Australian work rights.
- Hold a WA Construction Industry White Card or possess the ability to obtain.
- Previously held a HSEQ related role within a defence manufacturing or sustainment environment.
- Formal qualification in one or several of the below nationally recognised endorsements:
- BSB41419 - Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
- BSB51319 - Diploma of Work Health and Safety.
- TAE40122 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- WA WHS Harmonised Legislation Training.
- HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid.
- PUAFER005 - Operate as Part of an Emergency Control Organisation.
- Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) Training.
- Health and Safety Committee (HSC) Training.
- Experience working in a Defence and/or Marine maintenance environment.
Professional / Technical Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years experience in the delivery of HSEQ outcomes within a technical or maintenance delivery environment.
- High-level of knowledge, understanding and experience of safety and environmental compliance within a maintenance focused delivery program.
- High-level knowledge, understanding, and experience of QMS and ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001).
- Display a willingness to challenge the normal and a willingness to learn and improve.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven communication skills both verbal and written.
- Microsoft Windows literate including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Good knowledge or experience in the use of HSEQ management software.
- Knowledge or related experience in a maritime production, maintenance or manufacturing environment.
- Specific defence experience in a maintenance service delivery function. RAN and RNZN will be highly regarded.
