About the Program
The Remote Australia Employment Service Program (RAES) provides intensive case management support to address the needs of Aboriginal people who are unemployed to provide opportunities that lead to positive social and economic outcomes for families and their community.
By creating employment opportunities in partnership with the local community, job seekers gain useful employability skills and meaningful qualifications through attendance in activities which increase job opportunities.
About the Role
The RAES Community Project Mentor is responsible for providing quality and effective delivery of community projects.
This position has a particular focus on working with RAES participants and Elderly people receiving Aged Care Services to provide firewood to elderly people, maintain minor maintenance to their properties, maintain Santa Teresa Men's Shed and maintaining the community garden.
Participants will develop general labouring skills to upskill them for possible future employment in labouring/trades assistant type work.
What we are looking for
* Relevant experience and competency in the use of various power tools and equipment used in the building industry, tree felling and garden maintenance
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to facilitate training and engage with people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
* Demonstrated ability to use technology including intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications, Word, Outlook and other electronic database systems.
* An understanding of adult learning and development principles, the Employability Skills Framework and a demonstrated ability to develop and implement structured group activities.
* Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Indigenous people.
