Sydney
ActiveXchange Pty Ltd
General Manager
Posted: 12 February
Offer description

This EGM APAC role represents to set the tone for a region and the chance to unlock the value of data for sports, governments and brands, and with this shape more active and healthy communities.

Across the APAC, ActiveXchange collaborates with approximately 500 client partners, the majority of which use the ActiveXchange data intelligence platform to inform important planning, investment and operational decisions, and shape funding and commercial partnerships. ActiveXchange is responsible for securely processing and enhancing data on over 5 million sport and recreation member and participant records, transforming this into exciting and high impact intelligence. This is unique and unprecedented within the region. And we’re only just at the start of the journey!

ActiveXchange’s primary regions are APAC (with a focus on Australia and New Zealand), UK and Europe and North America.

Opportunity

This requires a proven industry leader who has a deep appreciation and interest in establishing a precedent for how data can be better leveraged throughout community sport, and how the sport sector can better align itself and collaborate with commercial partners (as well as all tiers of government). The next phase of the ActiveXchange’s strategy is heavily focused on driving commercial opportunities and returns for sport through the progressive and joined‑up use of data.

Applicants for this role should have existing experience of working with national sport/government partners and commercial brands/agencies and have a solid understanding of the current and emerging data, digital media and marketing needs of these organisations. Experience relating to sponsorship is also advantageous as well as professional services.

As the Executive General Manager (APAC) you are responsible for driving commercial outcomes across the region, developing and leading the existing team. This involves delivering against budget and strategy and achieving year‑on‑year uplift through new business, market share expansion and existing customer success.

You will confidently represent the organisation at regional and national‑level events and conferences. As a leader in the industry, you will continue to shape ActiveXchange’s network of partners and clients across APAC, focussing on how value and cross‑industry collaboration can be discovered and scaled. This will involve creating working groups, consulting with industry peers and professionals and presenting in a variety of forums.

This is also an opportunity to work closely alongside ActiveXchange’s network of existing in‑market advisors and associates, including Alexandra Ash (Chair of ActiveXchange APAC and CEO of YMCA Australia), XV Capital Advisory, James Ellender (Head of Fandom, AFL) and Simon Haire (government sport advisor).

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and strategy

You will provide visible leadership to the commercial team in the region, leading from the front with a bias to action and execution.

You will actively contribute and develop the strategy for the APAC region which feeds into ActiveXchange’s global plans. This will involve working closely with other regional leaders and the Executive team to ensure ActiveXchange continues to be a market leader.

Commercial and Customer

You will own and track performance against regional budget, set with the CEO and other regional GMs, and approved by the Group Board.

You will identify new customers and markets, use your deep network and understanding of the broad impact of ActiveXchange’s products and services to help connect customers with solutions.

You will lead pipeline management and ensure that there is a consistent approach to fostering and creating new opportunities.

You will build, maintain and create impactful customer relationships across the region, understanding the issues that customers are facing and use this to drive better outcomes.

You will continue to stay informed around the power of data, competitors and potential collaborators in the industry and their offerings.

Team and People

You will help to bring a consistency to the commercial approach within the region, coaching and developing existing staff to ensure they track to budget and focus on creating, developing and executing opportunities.

You will promote a collaborative and inclusive approach to problem solving, ensuring that existing knowledge and expertise are well balanced with a view forward.

You will represent the needs of the region when working with internal Group services, including marketing, product and finance.

Key relationships

You will work with a broad variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, across the industry. Internally this is working with all levels of the business from the executive (Board and C‑level) through to specialists in customer, data, technology, finance and marketing.

Externally, here is a non‑exhaustive list of the type of stakeholders you will foster and nurture relationships with:

* National Sporting Organisations

* Retail brands and partners
* Regional partnerships
* Facility operators

* Industry associations
* ActiveXchange associate advisors and ambassadors

Ensure Group policies and procedures are maintained in the region, and the use of corporate templates is adopted (legal, security, branding etc).

Coordinate day‑to‑day project management and coordination of new and existing projects and initiatives ensuring prioritisation of tasks across the whole team and to the mutual benefit of all involved - this will involve working closely with the COO where shared global resources are required.

Outline risks and mitigation strategies to keep projects on track and work closely with cross‑functional team members for hand‑offs.

Proactively support Finance to ensure debtors pay on time to aid cash flow.

Lead on regional thought leadership communications and support Group material where this can be associated with regional opportunities and/or progress.

Identify potential funding opportunities from within your region and work to progress these alongside the Group Executive.

Report into quarterly Board meetings on the performance, future plans and requirements of your region.

Attend and often speak at a range of industry events.

International travel - at least once a year from FY25 we will coordinate in‑person leadership workshops to advance the strategic plan - this may require travel to US/Canada/UK.

What you bring to the role

Proven commercial experience leading and growing teams and achieving budgets, ideally within the APAC sporting, data, media and/or commercial landscapes.

A demonstrable track record of setting realistic budgets and hitting targets both individually and as a team leader.

There will be a clear commercial focus to the role, both in setting and achieving realistic budgets, but also in creating new opportunities.

Setting a strategy with the broader team, having a plan to execute it and consistently doing so.

Growing and nurturing networks, through understanding how value can be created and shared.

Remuneration

Highly competitive salary, staff benefits, and with potential for share options based on personal and business performance. Start date is negotiable, but there is an enthusiasm to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.
