Weave Youth & Community Services is a place-based community organisation located on unceded Gadigal and Bidjigal Land in Sydney, that has been delivering a range of programs, supports and services developed with and for the community for 49 years.
Weave's purpose is to empower people to change their lives, and healing and connection is at the centre of our work. Weave supports children, young people, women and families who are impacted by systemic disadvantage and intergenerational trauma. Around 70% of all those we support across Weave are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. As a non-Aboriginal controlled organisation, Weave is strongly committed to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in their ongoing fight for justice and self-determination. About the role
Weave Youth & Community Services is seeking to engage an experienced, qualified driving instructor to work with our Driving Change Program. Weave's Driving Change program aims to help people to overcome barriers to obtaining their drivers licences and open up new opportunities in their lives.
This is a contracted Driving Instructor role for an initial engagement of 6 months with the possibility of extension. Insured dual control vehicles provided.
* Hours: A minimum of five hours commitment per week, with a maximum of 14 hours available.
* Availability: Must be available to work Saturdays starting at 7am, and at least one weekday (flexible days and hours).
* Location: We assist learner drivers in the following areas:
* Inner Sydney (Redfern/Waterloo, Woolloomooloo, and Glebe areas)
* South East Sydney (Botany, Maroubra and La Perouse areas)
* Marrickville area
Remuneration: $55 per one hour driving lesson delivered (50% payment for cancellation/no shows by learner drivers).
Essential licenses and requirements:
* Current Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport – Car Driving Instruction) (TLI41222)
* Valid NSW C Class Driver's Licence
* Valid Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
* Valid National Police Check
Essential Selection Criteria
1. Commitment to removing barriers and supporting learner drivers to become safe and independent drivers.
2. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to display empathy and patience in all interactions.
3. Excellent communication with the ability to effectively engage with a broad range of people.
4. Exceptional understanding and adherence to NSW road rules and regulations.
5. Effective diary management and a strong work ethic, able to tightly manage time and optimise schedule to service customers.
6. Ability to confidently adapt to various learning styles, needs and preferences
7. A team player with a strong work ethic who is flexible and willing to adapt according to the needs of the program and learners.
8. Awareness of, and sensitivity to the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples impacted by the ongoing oppressive legacies of colonisation.
9. Understanding of the importance of cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
10. Understanding of trauma-informed practice or willingness to learn.
Desirable
1. Qualification in Community Services, Youth Work, Social Work or similar field
2. Training and experience in trauma-informed practice.
