Overview

The Dual Diagnosis Peer Worker position is based in the Emergency Department and works with the Mental Health Emergency Teams to enhance outcomes for individuals with a Dual Diagnosis. The position requires the person to have a lived experience of mental health and drug and/or alcohol issues. The position will provide an effective link between consumers/carers, clinicians and services, with a focus on improving the consumer journey and treatment outcomes whilst providing advocacy and support. The Peer worker will be able to develop strong and effective stakeholder partnerships, including liaison with families and/or carers. This role is required to work weekends and afterhours. Whilst the position is based at Wollongong Hospital it may be expected to travel across the district as needed.

Location details: Wollongong Hospital, located on Dharawal Country, is the Illawarra Shoalhaven's major referral and teaching hospital with a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus includes the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre and provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.


Details

Salary: $31.51 - $52.48 per hour + 12% super & salary packaging
Status: Temporary Part Time 32 hours per week
Location: Wollongong Hospital (TWH)

Temporary funding: This is a temporarily funded position until 25 June 2028 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding.


Responsibilities

* Provide peer support and advocacy for individuals with dual diagnosis in the emergency department
* Develop and maintain partnerships with families and carers and liaise with consumers, clinicians and services to improve the consumer journey and treatment outcomes
* Contribute to a safe and supportive environment and collaborate with Mental Health Emergency Teams
* Work weekends and after-hours as required
* May travel across the district to support service delivery


Qualifications and requirements

* Lived experience of mental health and drug and/or alcohol issues
* Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role
* Working With Children Check (WWCC)
* Certificate IV in Peer Work or willingness to undertake the Certificate IV in Peer Work
* Valid NSW Driver's Licence
