The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Prison Intelligence Officer to provide a critical role at Tarrengower Prison.

About the Business Unit

Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service (CVIS) is the overarching intelligence service for Corrections Victoria (CV) and its stakeholders, and forms part of the Security and Emergency Services Group, which is located at the Metropolitan Remand Centre at Middle Road, Ravenhall. Presently, the CVIS comprises the primary intelligence unit known as the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit (CVIU) and intelligence officers located at the twelve public and two private prison facilities in Victoria.

Tarrengower is a minimum security prison accommodating up to 72 female offenders and is situated 2 kms from Maldon in Central Victoria. Tarrengower's emphasis is on release preparation and community reintegration through the provisions of programs within a rehabilitative environment. Tarrengower emphasises the principles of a healthy prison where children can be accommodated with their mothers ensuring the family unit is maintained and developed. Tarrengower strongly recognises cultural diversity, respecting individual religious, spiritual and cultural beliefs.

About the Role

The position of Prison Intelligence Officer falls within the CVIS and its primary role and purpose is to provide a centrally located and identifiable focal point within the prison facility for all intelligence related matters.

The position was created to assist prison management in maintaining the security, good order and management of prison facilities by gathering, recording, analysing and disseminating information in order to prevent prisoner escapes, prevent the introduction and usage of contraband within prisons, and to identify possible prisoner incidents/unrest.

As a Prison Intelligence Officer, you would be expected, under limited supervision, to contribute to the collection, collation, recording and analysis of particular information available to the prison intelligence unit, and develop this information for presentation to management, and for distribution to authorised persons/external agencies.

Some of your duties will include:

* Work with all members of the prison towards ensuring the safety and security of prisoners, staff, and visitors.
* Under limited supervision, collect, collate, record, and assess information from all available prison sources, and disseminate intelligence product to authorised parties in a timely manner.
* Assist the Prison Intelligence Analyst to collate and analyse all available information and disseminate intelligence product to authorised parties in a timely manner.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to use, computer software such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel and e-mail.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the operation of the prisoner telephone system, prisoner mail, and prisoner visit lists.
* Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to apply relevant legislation, policy and procedure relating to CV and the management of its prison facilities.

Qualifications and requirements

* Prison officer pre-service training and completion of Cert III in Correctional Practice is mandatory.
