What You'll Do:
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head Chef - Events & Production to take charge of our culinary operations across diverse dining venues and event formats. This is a strategic leadership role where you'll be conceptualizing innovative dishes, managing comprehensive kitchen operations, and driving financial performance while maintaining our reputation for excellence.
Working from our South Yarra headquarters, you'll collaborate closely with front-of-house teams, manage supplier relationships, and lead a skilled culinary brigade through high-volume service periods and bespoke event experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
* Culinary Innovation: Conceptualize and develop dishes that align with our distinctive venue styles, crafting detailed recipes and sourcing premium ingredients
* Financial Management: Maintain food costs at or below 28% through strategic cost control, supplier negotiation, and efficient resource management
* Team Leadership: Lead, train, and develop kitchen staff at all levels, conducting regular check-ins and fostering professional growth
* Operational Excellence: Oversee daily kitchen operations, mise en place completion, and ensure adherence to HACCP and food safety standards
* Supplier Relations: Negotiate pricing and manage relationships with key suppliers, demonstrating deep knowledge of ingredient sourcing and provenance
* Cross-Department Collaboration: Work seamlessly with front of house teams, providing menu training, allergen information, and service coordination
What You'll Bring:
* Minimum 5 years of senior kitchen experience with proven leadership capabilities
* Strong background in high-volume production environments and event catering
* Demonstrated expertise in cost control and financial management within kitchen operations
* Exceptional organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Comprehensive knowledge of food safety, HACCP compliance, and kitchen hygiene practices
* Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
* Passion for mentoring and developing culinary talent
* Collaborative mindset with excellent communication abilities
