About the role
We are seeking an experienced Batch Manager Software Engineer to join a large and complex enterprise environment delivering nationally significant systems. This is a senior level position equivalent to APS6 where you will provide technical leadership, oversee batch processing schedules and support critical overnight processing that underpins key business operations.
You will work under limited direction, using sound judgement and initiative to deliver high quality software solutions, manage competing priorities and contribute to continuous improvement across systems and processes.
This role is suited to someone with strong mainframe batch management experience who thrives in high availability environments and enjoys collaborating with technical and business stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
Your duties may include but are not limited to
* Undertaking analysis, design, development, prototyping, testing and maintenance of software solutions
* Managing and maintaining batch schedules to ensure reliable and timely bulk processing
* Supporting development teams to deliver robust ICT solutions
* Analysing technical requirements and proposing appropriate solutions
* Defining high quality software and technical designs for complex systems
* Ensuring software quality standards and endorsed development methodologies are followed
* Providing go live support and ongoing maintenance
* Escalating issues and recommending alternative approaches where required
* Supporting innovation to meet enterprise and user needs
* Providing comprehensive technical advice to senior stakeholders
* Monitoring workloads to ensure delivery outcomes are met
* Preparing technical documentation and progress reports
* Collaborating closely with stakeholders across multiple projects
* Maintaining up to date knowledge of ICT policies and processes
* Participating in on call support for overnight batch runs that drive critical business processes
Technical experience required
To be successful in this role you will have substantial hands on experience with
* IBM mainframe environments and associated tools
* IBM Work Scheduler for z OS OPC
* Batch scheduling and management in complex enterprise systems
* Development and scripting using JCL COBOL Broadcom Gen or similar
* Database technologies including DB2 SQL SPUFI and OPTIM
* Troubleshooting and incident support including after hours support when required
Working arrangements
This role is based in a capital city within the listed states. You will be required to work onsite full time for the first six weeks. After this period, a hybrid arrangement will be considered, typically with a minimum of three days per week onsite. You must live within reasonable travel distance of the agreed office location.
