LGA Procurement is a self-funded business unit owned by Local Government Association South Australia (LGA) to provide a range of procurement activities to councils and other local government entities that seek to deliver best value for money and certainty of process. The Board provides strategic oversight, financial management and corporate governance over the company, as well as sets the strategic direction of the company in consultation with LGA and other stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
The Board is accountable to LGA Board of Directors for the performance of LGA Procurement. In general terms, the Board is responsible for:
· providing and monitoring strategic direction.
· Increasing the value that LGA Procurement delivers to the sector
· establishing financial targets and monitoring performance.
· compliance with applicable laws and regulation.
· effective management of risks.
Essential skills and experience
The LGA Procurement Board Directors must have skills and knowledge in one or more of the following areas director’s responsibilities, procurement knowledge, strategic expertise, local government knowledge, accounting and finance, legal, risk management, business transformation, governance, business development with an entrepreneurial mindset. Completion of theCompany Directors Courseand membership with theAustralian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD)is highly regarded but not essential.
In addition to the above, Directors should have the following personal attributes:

LGA Procurement was established to help South Australian councils undertake best practice procurement and deliver value for money by:
Developing and maintaining a suite of goods and services contracts that enable councils to access robust, streamlined, aggregated procurement arrangements.
Providing a comprehensive set of best practice procurement and contracting tools and resources.
Providing tendering and contracting advice and support services.
Preparing and managing tenders and tender evaluations on behalf of councils.
Facilitating the exchange of knowledge about products, services and developments of interest to the sector.
Delivering professional development and procurement leadership to the sector.

It is the peak body representing 68 councils across South Australia it’s passionate about helping local government build stronger communities. Although LGA Procurement is a self-funded entity, it is allowed to operate with the same ethos of community focus.
