DAIWS operates 24/7 women's shelters for Crisis Accommodation and transitional units for longer term accommodation, Outreach and Counselling services for clients to support them in living strong empowered lives.
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and child-focused Children's Case Worker to deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe support to children and young people impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence.
This role works across three service sites, including:
* Women's and Children's Shelter
* Transitional Housing
* Outreach and Family Support Programs
The position supports children through case management, therapeutic engagement, and structured programming, while working closely with parents and caregivers to strengthen safety, wellbeing, and connection.
This is a female-identified position due to the nature of the service and the need to provide culturally safe, trauma-informed support within women's and children's environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide case management support to children impacted by DFV
* Support children's schooling needs, attendance, and engagement
* Deliver child-focused therapeutic support in collaboration with relevant services
* Design and facilitate trauma-informed, in-house activities and programs
* Work collaboratively with Outreach Services while parenting and family programs are delivered twice weekly
* Support parents to strengthen parenting capacity within a trauma-informed framework
* Maintain accurate case notes, reports, and data collection
Essential Criteria
* Minimum Certificate III in Community Services (or relevant qualification)
* Demonstrated experience working with children affected by trauma and DFV
* Minimum 1-2 years of experience working directly with children or youth in a support capacity
* Understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice
* Ability to develop and deliver structured, engaging, and culturally appropriate activities for children
* Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across multiple sites
* Cultural awareness and the ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families
* Current Police Check and NT Working with Children (WWC) clearance
* Current Northern Territory driver's license is mandatory for this role
Desirable
* Experience in therapeutic or play-based interventions
* Experience working in shelters or transitional housing environments
