The Pilbara Ranger Network
The Pilbara Ranger Network (PRN) is a dynamic network dedicated to supporting and strengthening Indigenous ranger teams across the Pilbara region. We bring our member Traditional Owner groups together to collaborate and support each other in achieving cultural, environmental, and community outcomes through ranger programs that honour traditional knowledge and contemporary land management practices.
The Role
Events and communication are at the heart of the Pilbara Ranger Network. We bring rangers and stakeholders together to build and strengthen relationships, inspire, learn from each other, and build pride in our sector. This role isn't just about what you do, it's how you do it – how you achieve these outcomes at all of our events and through our communications. This takes a special skillset and level of experience – we need someone who can hold this big picture and make sure the urns are booked
We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and experienced Events and Communications Coordinator to join our small but growing team to play a crucial role in delivering key networking events and communication initiatives that strengthen our ranger network. These events bring rangers together from across the Pilbara in an annual forum, on-country workshops, and training events.
Alongside delivery of our key events, you will lead the development and implementation of a communications strategy building the networks online presence and strengthening communications to our member groups and key stakeholders. Communications will go beyond sharing the work of the network to creating a platform to share the incredible work of Pilbara rangers caring for one of Australia's most spectacular landscapes
Responsibilities and Duties
Event Coordination and Management
* Plan, coordinate and deliver key networking events including an annual forum and on-country camp bringing together ranger teams from across the Pilbara
* Support the delivery of training events, workshops, and regional exchange trips by managing venue bookings, catering, accommodation, and travel arrangements for participants in collaboration with the program lead
* Support ranger teams to access ranger exchange support, facilitating knowledge sharing and peer-to-peer learning between ranger teams
* Facilitate partner and stakeholder engagement at events
* Project manage consultants and contractors providing services at network events
Communications Strategy and Implementation
* Develop and implement a communications strategy for the Pilbara Ranger Network which will include a cohesive framework for the following elements:
* Establish a digital presence for the Pilbara Ranger Network including a website and social media platforms including use of Content Management System (CMS)
o Establish online communication channels for member groups to connect
o Establish a shared member portal within the website and support staff and contractors to build portal content
o Establish and maintain a digital media library
o Develop a suite of template communication products for consistent messaging across the Network
o Create a bi-monthly update newsletter and annual report to distribute to member organisations, partners, and stakeholders
o Capture stories and case studies which can be fed into the network's monitoring, evaluation and reporting framework
o Maintain and regularly distribute a network contacts register
o Develop communications policies and procedures including media engagement protocol
o Support the development of high-impact media stories showcasing the natural and cultural values of the Pilbara landscape and work of Pilbara rangers
o Provide communications advice and training to member groups including the development of media content for their own communications platforms
Levels of Authority
This authority should be exercised in a responsible, legitimate, and appropriate manner in the best ethical and commercial interests of the Pilbara Ranger Network. This authority must not conflict with any policy statements, procedures, and instructions.
Occupational Health and Safety Responsibilities
All employees have responsibility for Health and Safety. The employee shall comply with the Workplace Health and Safety Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. The employee shall comply with instructions given by their manager in the respect of the Health and Safety of themselves and the Pilbara Ranger Network Health and Safety of other persons.
Selection Criteria
Essential Requirements
* Minimum 2 years' experience in communications, marketing, digital media, event management, or related field AND/OR;
* Experience working with Indigenous communities and communicating in a cross-cultural context
* Very strong event management, organisational and time management skills
* Comfortable traveling to remote areas and multi-day camping on-country
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills across diverse audiences
* Experience with program management, budgeting and financial administration
* Current driver's license, working with children's check and police clearance
Desireable Requirements and Experience
* Tertiary qualification in communications, marketing, digital media, event management, or related field
* Experience in natural resource management, conservation, or environment communications
* Knowledge of the Pilbara region and Traditional Owner groups
* Skills in graphic design, photography, or video production
* Experience with government and NGO partnerships and stakeholder engagement
* Understanding of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) principles
* Experience in or strong understanding of brand development, management, and implementation at a whole organisation level
* Proven ability to work both independently and within a team environment
* Demonstrated computer literacy in common office products
