We have a newly created role for a Management Accountant to join our Defence division and support with this new contract.
In this hands‑on role you will partner with the business to provide financial leadership and support to enable the successful delivery of the PAS contract. The position is available immediately, beginning with establishing the new contract and then progressing into an operational delivery role. Your focus will be on analysing and improving financial systems controls, providing detailed work order profitability analysis and validating project costings. The role is based from our modern head office in Melbourne, which offers a vibrant environment featuring a balcony, BBQ area, collaborative and quiet spaces, and plenty of natural light.
About the role
You will be optimising financial performance, managing risks, and ensuring compliance with all reporting, regulatory and contractual requirements. You will be pivotal in standing up powerful operational reports to provide financial insights, drive good decision making, enable system governance and controls for operations to efficiently deliver contract requirements.
Key responsibilities
* Implementing and enhancing financial systems, tools, and processes to improve reporting accuracy, speed, and data‑driven decision‑making
* Partnering with operational teams to monitor financial performance and drive cost‑efficiency initiatives
* Developing and implementing framework for standard costing reconciliation
* Providing detailed analysis of balance sheet reconciliations
* Providing financial modelling and scenario analysis to drive efficiency in planning and delivery of contracted scopes
* Ensuring compliance with financial policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
* Supporting the implementation and optimisation of financial systems and reporting tools
* Collaborating with senior leaders to translate financial data into actionable insights
* Contributing to audit processes and liaising with external auditors as required
* Preparation of monthly management reports with insightful financial analysis
* Any other tasks assigned which may be reasonably requested from time to time, which contribute to the success of the organisation
About you
* Minimum 3‑5 years of experience in management accounting, financial analysis, or business partnering
* Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
* Demonstrated ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate insights effectively
* Knowledge of financial compliance, internal controls, and reporting standards
* Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving skills
* Advanced Excel skills and the ability to accurately manipulate large data sets whilst ensuring the accuracy of information and suitability of delivery method
* Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, whilst ensuring strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline (CPA, CA highly regarded)
