As Place and Sustainability Manager, you’ll lead a team of highly skilled professionals in public domain, transport, and environmental strategy. Your leadership will guide how the Sutherland Shire grows and adapts, ensuring that our urban spaces are resilient, inclusive and connected.
Your Role in Shaping Our Future
In this pivotal leadership position, you will oversee the integration of place-making, strategic transport planning and sustainability and resilience strategy development and implementation across the Sutherland Shire.
- Provide strategic direction for public domain and place‑making initiatives, including design frameworks and urban renewal projects.
- Lead the development of transport and active transport strategies, supporting sustainable movement and accessibility across the Sutherland Shire.
- Oversee environmental and climate resilience strategies, embedding sustainability and biodiversity in planning and policy.
- Offer expert advice on development applications, contributions, and urban design policy to achieve high‑quality place outcomes.
- Champion collaboration across Council, community, and government partners to deliver integrated, evidence‑based outcomes.
- Lead, mentor and inspire a multi‑disciplinary team, fostering innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.
Are You the Ideal Candidate?
We are looking for a passionate and experienced professional who thrives in shaping places and policies that have long‑term community impact.
- Degree qualifications in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, environmental management, or sustainability leadership within local government.
- Proven ability to lead and develop multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver complex and high‑impact projects.
- Robust understanding of movement and place frameworks, and experience in public domain or active transport planning.
- Exceptional skills in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and report writing.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the EP&A; Act 1979 and the Local Government Act 1993.
