About the opportunity
Altrad are seeking an experienced Painting Trainer / Mentor to support the delivery of a structured Painting/Coating traineeship program on a major oil & gas project in Darwin. This Darwin-based role is open to locals or those considering permanent relocation to the region and operates on a Monday–Friday schedule. You will act as the dedicated site focal point for trainees, delivering hands‑on mentoring, coaching and assessment while coordinating training activities with site supervision, the RTO and third‑party traineeship providers to ensure competency, compliance and successful progression through the program.

In this role, you will:
* Act as the primary mentor and point of contact for Painting/Coating trainees
* Deliver and support both theoretical and practical components of the traineeship in accordance with the approved Training and Assessment Strategy (TAS)
* Supervise competency‑based tasks and ensure accurate evidence collection in line with RTO requirements and the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2025
* Mentor and coach trainees in live field environments alongside workgroups
* Coordinate assessment blocks with RTO and adhere to agreed training schedules
* Set up, maintain and continuously improve training areas, test rigs and panels
* Work closely with coating supervision to embed trainees into current and upcoming scopes
* Support online learning components and LMS requirements
* Support content and assessment optimization and development as directed by the RTO
* Contribute to VOCs, skills development plans and continuous improvement initiatives
* Prepare performance reports in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders.

About you
You're a hands‑on, safety‑focused mentor who excels at coaching trainee Painter Blasters and developing capability on complex industrial sites.
* Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (essential)
* Certificate III in Surface Preparation & Coating Application (essential)
* Minimum 5 years' current experience in industrial coating
* Experience delivering structured workplace training and mentoring in an industrial environment
* NACE CIP Inspector qualifications (desirable)
* Experience on major industrial sites within energy, mining, marine or construction
* Exposure to products such as Humidur, STOPAQ or Chartek (desirable)
* Strong documentation, reporting and computer skills
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability
* Genuine passion for mentoring and workforce development
