Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist – Custodial Mental Health Risk and Suicide Prevention Role
This is a challenging yet rewarding role for a Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist to deliver specialist interventions for people in custody with elevated risk of harm to self. The successful candidate will develop capacity within the Custodial Mental Health (CMH) Service in the assessment, formulation and management of suicide/self-harm risk.
The Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist will provide education and supervision to CMH colleagues, and clinical leadership and consultation to clinicians within the Suicide Prevention Outreach Team (SPOT). A key focus will be on building SPOT clinicians' capabilities in applying evidence-based approaches to suicide risk assessment management.
Working as part of the Suicide Prevention Outreach Team within the broader CMH Service, this role will collaborate closely with clinicians from Outreach, Assertive Care, and Specialist Services, and will develop and maintain close working relationships with Corrective Services NSW psychologists.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct evidence-based risk assessments and develop management plans for people with elevated risk of suicide or self-harm in custody, mental health, or secure settings.
* Provide clinical supervision, consultation, and education to mental health clinicians to build their capacity in evidence-based suicide prevention practices.
* Work collaboratively with stakeholders across directorates and in partner agencies to support high-risk individuals in custody.
Requirements:
* General registration and area of practice endorsement in clinical or forensic psychology with the Psychology Board of Australia under Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Approved or eligible for approval as a Psychology Board of Australia Supervisor.
* Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in mental health and suicide prevention, including risk assessment, formulation and management, within prison, mental health, and/or secure settings.
* Significant experience in providing consultation, supervision and clinical leadership to other mental health clinicians.
