Tunnel System Technician (x2)
Location: Tweed Heads, NSW
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6 months (with possible extension)
Pay Rate: $85-$95 per hour + super
Work Type: In office, 5 days/week
About the Role:
We are seeking two highly skilled Tunnel System Technicians to support the ongoing operations and maintenance of critical tunnel infrastructure systems. These contract roles sit within the Tunnels & Ferries Team of the Regional Road Network Maintenance unit.
This is a hands-on, technical role responsible for supporting and maintaining Operational Management and Control Systems (OMCS), including traffic control, communications, safety, and SCADA systems. The role is essential in ensuring 24/7 system availability and fault response.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and troubleshoot faults in OMCS-related hardware and software systems (servers, storage, networks).
- Perform routine monitoring, preventive maintenance, and system backups across SCADA and tunnel control systems.
- Triage and coordinate responses to incidents reported by the Regional Traffic Operations Centre (RTOC).
- Serve as primary on-call contact for OMCS faults, escalating and coordinating resolutions with internal teams or vendors.
- Maintain technical documentation and system configurations in line with operational standards.
Technical Capabilities Required
- Proven experience maintaining and supporting SCADA, industrial control, or other critical safety systems.
- Hands-on experience with VMware vCenter, Microsoft Windows, Veeam, SolarWinds, Genetec, Studio 5000.
- Proficiency in maintaining industrial PLCs, enterprise servers, and storage systems.
- Solid networking skills with experience across diverse platforms or CCNA certification (or equivalent knowledge).
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate IV or higher in Control Systems, Electronics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Communication Networks, or equivalent professional experience.
- Valid Australian Driver's Licence (minimum P1).
- Willingness to work on-call and travel to other tunnel assets as required.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years in a similar role within infrastructure, transport, utilities, or comparable industries.
- Experience coordinating with external vendors and managing system upgrades or fault escalations.
- Prior exposure to Tunnel Operation and Management Control Systems (OMCS) is highly desirable.
Key Challenges
- Ensuring 24/7 operational availability of tunnel systems with minimal downtime.
- Coordinating efficiently between internal teams and vendors within limited maintenance windows.
- Rapid response and triage of critical issues to maintain service continuity.
