Position Information

Nowra High School is a vibrant, inclusive co‐educational secondary school serving students from Year 7 to Year 12. As part of the dynamic public education system, we celebrate diversity and warmly welcome students from all backgrounds and cultures, creating a supportive community where every student can thrive and achieve their full potential. Our diverse student population of 792 students includes 186 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students (23%) and 64 students from non‐English‐speaking backgrounds (8.5%). Our school has a growing Inclusion and Support faculty with 9 classes in 2026.

We have worked closely with parents, local businesses, and community organisations to create a network of support that enhances the educational experience for our students. The Head Teacher Creative and Performing Arts role leads a dedicated faculty that nurtures the varied talents and interests of students in Visual Arts, Music, Photography, Dance, Drama and Languages.

Specific Selection Criteria

* Approval and demonstrated experience teaching either Visual Arts and/or Music and/or Drama to Years 7–12 with measurable success, and a willingness to teach all subjects within the CAPA framework.
* Demonstrated excellence in classroom practice, including leadership, planning, and modelling of high‐quality, evidence‐based, student‐centred, and differentiated teaching and learning programs leading to sustained personal, faculty and student growth.
* Proven capacity to work dynamically as a productive and collaborative member of the executive team to implement and manage change, analyse and evaluate data to determine priorities and lead initiatives in the school excellence plan.
* Proven capacity to lead and inspire high expectations, professional growth and collaboration to support faculty cohesion, consistency, accountability and clear evidence of impact on student learning and engagement.
* Proven experience in leading inclusive community engagement initiatives and extracurricular events that showcase student interest and talent and leverage creativity to foster positive relationships between the school and the broader community.

General Selection Criteria

* Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
* Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
* Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
* Well‐developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
* Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
