The Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office serves the rule of law exclusively for the State, providing responsive legal services to the Victorian Government and public sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice on a diverse range of matters, including statutory interpretation, criminal law, subpoenas, administrative law, privacy, police functions, protection of witnesses, media, defamation, forensic procedures, intervention orders, and emergency management.
* Offer timely advice under pressure, requiring sound judgment.
Requirements
* Post-admission experience up to 5 years.
* Demonstrated ability to provide written and oral advice, conduct complex research, analyze data, advocate in various jurisdictions, collaborate in teams, and build relationships with stakeholders.
* Experience working on complex litigation with tight deadlines and an understanding or willingness to learn about police powers, duties, and responsibilities; criminal law and procedure; administrative law and statutory interpretation; public interest immunity claims; and privacy and information sharing.
