System Engineer – Mission-Critical IT & Communications Expert
Tasmania is home to a state-wide, mission-critical radio communications network that relies on emergency services, utilities, and government agencies. As an Operations Engineer, you'll have unique exposure to cutting-edge radio, IT, and network technologies.
This role offers the opportunity to work with specialized systems that ensure 24/7 operation of essential services.
About the Position
You'll provide expert-level support for IT, network, and communications systems within an ITIL-aligned environment. Your responsibilities will include maintaining high-availability services across servers, networking, virtualization, security tools, radio infrastructure, and dispatch systems.
Main Responsibilities
* Support and maintain Windows/Linux servers, VMware ESXi, and storage systems.
* Manage routing, switching, and security technologies (firewalls/antimalware).
* Support radio network applications, infrastructure, consoles, and subscriber devices.
* Act as an escalation point for NOC and field technicians.
* Participate in a 24/7 on-call roster, including occasional urgent after-hours work.
* Work within change control processes and maintain accurate documentation.
* Liaise with third-party vendors and contribute to KPI/SLA reporting.
Key Skills and Qualifications
* A minimum of 3 years' experience in system/network engineering or administration.
* Strong communication, ownership, and problem-solving skills.
