Legal Counsel Regulatory Affairs

Job Description

The role of Legal Counsel Regulatory Affairs is to provide timely, strategic, and commercially focused legal advice to support regulatory uplift programs, business decision-making, compliance, and customer outcomes.

This includes providing ongoing legal support and advice on regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with telecommunications laws, industry codes, and emerging digital platform regulations. The role also involves managing regulatory enforcement matters by mitigating legal risks, providing customer-focused advice, overseeing external resources, and ensuring timely reporting to stakeholders.

Additionally, the Legal Counsel Regulatory Affairs will manage Optus' responses to regulatory and law enforcement requests while supporting the Group Compliance Program through legal advice, compliance, and proactive risk identification. Furthermore, this role promotes legal and regulatory compliance by training and educating Optus teams, and supporting readiness and adherence to new and existing laws.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide timely, strategic, and commercially focused legal advice to support regulatory uplift programs, business decision-making, compliance, and customer outcomes.
* Manage regulatory enforcement matters by mitigating legal risks, providing customer-focused advice, overseeing external resources, and ensuring timely reporting to stakeholders.
* Support Optus' regulatory position by meeting commitments, monitoring legal developments, and contributing to regulatory strategy through collaboration with Regulatory & Government Affairs.
* Promote legal and regulatory compliance by training and educating Optus teams, and supporting readiness and adherence to new and existing laws.


Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require a strong understanding of regulatory and telecommunications matters, as well as experience in providing commercially focused legal and regulatory support. You should also have strong drafting, negotiation, project management, and communication abilities, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard office tools.

In addition, you should have the ability to effectively communicate across all organizational levels, build trust, influence stakeholders, work both independently and collaboratively, and manage competing priorities. A performance-driven, proactive approach, with developing leadership and management capabilities, would be beneficial.

What Makes You Perfect for the Role?

A qualified Australian solicitor with 5+ years' legal experience, extensive knowledge of regulatory and telecommunications matters, and a law degree would be highly regarded. Experience in telecommunications or regulatory matters, working in fast-paced environments, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders would also be advantageous.

Skillful in providing commercially focused legal and regulatory support, with strong drafting, negotiation, project management, and communication abilities, you should be proficient in Microsoft Office and other standard office tools. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, work both independently and collaboratively, and manage competing priorities would be essential.
