Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is looking for a Mental Health Advice and Response Service (MHARS) Clinician to join our growing team on a permanent full-time or part-time basis.

About the Role

This role is part of Victoria's Forensic Mental Health Implementation Plan and provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of mental health and the justice system.

MHARS clinicians provide specialist mental health advice to Magistrates, Community Correctional Services and court users, ensuring appropriate mental health interventions, referrals and outcomes for people appearing before the Court. You will deliver responsive, recovery-oriented care through screening, assessment, consultation, reporting and referral.

This is a highly autonomous and specialist role suited to senior clinicians with strong assessment skills and a sound understanding of legal processes.

About you

You will:

* Provide recovery-oriented mental health services to court users
* Deliver specialist clinical advice to Magistrates and court stakeholders
* Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments in a forensic setting
* Prepare high-quality written reports and provide verbal advice in court
* Liaise with Police, Custodial Health and Forensic Medical Officers
* Support training and education for court and legal professionals
* Contribute to quality improvement, evaluation and service development
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold professional standards

You are a confident and compassionate clinician with:

* At least 5 years' post-registration experience in mental health
* Strong assessment, formulation and report-writing skills
* The ability to work independently in a complex forensic environment
* Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act 2022
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* A commitment to recovery-oriented, ethical and person-centred practice

Essential qualifications

You must hold current registration with one of the following:

* AHPRA as a Registered Nurse with postgraduate mental health qualification
* AHPRA as a Psychologist or Occupational Therapist
* Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers

You will also require:

* Victorian Driver's Licence
* Satisfactory Police Check
* Working with Children Check
