Primary objective
Provide assembly, maintenance, fault diagnoses and repair services for all instrumentation and data transmission equipment
associated with Water Resource Monitoring throughout the Northern Territory.
Context statement
This role supports the Instrument Workshop Manager in providing asset management and technical support to water
monitoring officers as they deliver water monitoring programs across the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assemble, integrate, test, troubleshoot and deploy hydrometric and communications instrumentation under the direction
of the Instrument Workshop Manager.
2. Administer Water Monitoring Branch assets under the direction of the Instrument Workshop Manager, including
servicing, calibration, fault finding, deployment and asset tracking.
3. Maintain asset and instrumentation databases and documentation.
4. Undertake field trips to repair and replace water monitoring equipment and associated infrastructure, provide field
support to other Water Monitoring Officers as required. This may include working in, on and near water bodies, including
flood waters, often in remote, hard to access places. May also be required to operate / travel in small boats and all-terrain
vehicles.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Possess an interest in electronic instrumentation and data transmission equipment assembly, configuration and
diagnostics with a commitment to undertaking internal and external training to develop skills.
2. Aptitude in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
3. Practical ability to perform basic wiring and termination tasks, including identifying colours in various electrical wiring
and cables.
4. Knowledge in the use of computers including the Microsoft Office suite with the demonstrated ability to learn and use
software associated with water monitoring and telemetry equipment.
5. Practical skills to operate safely and effectively in remote locations and a strong ability to resolve technical issues with
limited resources.
6. Physically fit and able to undertake physically demanding work, be able to work in remote Territory conditions.
7. Good communication skills with the ability to collaborate and work in a small team.
8. Hold a current NT drivers' licence or have the ability to obtain, and have the ability to obtain a Northern Territory firearms
licence.
Desirable
1. Experience in a field of technical work closely related to the duties of the position.
Further information
This role is primarily based in the Water Resources instrument workshop in Winnellie. However, the role will also require
remote area travel, working and camping away from home for up to three weeks at a time and working outside normal hours.
To be successful, applicants will be required to undertake and pass a pre-employment screening including a medical/fitness
assessment and drug testing.
