The Employer
Our client is offering a highly passionate and skilled person the opportunity to join this productive and modern operation near Cowra, NSW. The 1,700-ha property has been continually developed over the years and now stands as a highly productive grazing operation with established infrastructure and a modern plant.
The business operates a commercial livestock enterprise that produces a self-replacing herd of 600 cows and 3,000 cross-bred ewes, along with their progeny and opportunity trade stock when season's allow. Part of the property is used to produce Lucerne hay and fodder cropping, which is then stored on-farm for supplementary feeding.
The Role
This role requires a dedicated, knowledgeable, and practically experienced person with a keen interest in pasture development and fodder cropping to assist in driving this area of the business. Working alongside the current Farm Manager, you will participate in all day-to-day operations of the farming enterprise in a hands-on way while balancing the profitability and productivity of the entire operation with the Manager.
You must possess a broad practical skillset, an aptitude for mechanics and machinery operation, and extensive knowledge of mixed farming practices. You will work within a small, efficient, supportive team where your input is highly valued and regarded.
Ideally, you will:
- Understand pasture management/improvement and fodder cropping practices.
- Have experience with maintaining farm infrastructures such as fences and water, spraying.
- Have experience with maintaining farm machinery, including Trimble and JD guidance systems. Welding skills are advantageous.
- Be experienced with both sheep and cattle breeding, nutrition, and livestock handling.
- Be able to work autonomously as required and be reliable and honest.
- Have a progressive mindset with a high level of attention to detail
- Be prepared to help with livestock duties as required from time to time.
