We're looking for a Land Development Engineer to join our hardworking Planning and Development team based in Queenstown. This is a great opportunity to help shape the future of the district
What you'll be doing / He aha te mahi
At QLDC, every role makes a genuine difference. As a Land Development Engineer, you'll influence how our district grows, ensuring infrastructure is built to last and protects our people and environment. No two days are the same – you'll work on diverse projects, collaborate with planners and consultants, and apply best engineering practice to shape the future.
The Role Will Involve
Assess subdivision and development proposals for compliance and quality with Council standards, best practices, and consent conditions.
Provide technical advice that minimises risk and maximises community benefit and ensures alignment with Council policies and legal requirements.
Manage workflows to meet statutory timeframes and deliver exceptional outcomes.
What you'll bring to the role / Ko wai tō Pukeka
With 5+ years of experience in civil engineering or surveying, you'll bring strong time and project management skills, the ability to work independently after training, and exceptional communication skills for presenting to diverse audiences. You'll excel at building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships, presenting a professional image, and bringing innovation and meticulous attention to detail to every project. To Best Succeed In This Role, You'll Have
Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or related discipline (and be eligible for professional membership).
Knowledge of 3 waters reticulation systems, roading and land management.
Sound knowledge of the RMA, Local Government Act and knowledge of related legislation desirable but not essential.
Knowledge of NZS 4404:2010 Land Development and Subdivision Infrastructure
Previous experience working in a New Zealand Territorial/Consent Authority desirable but not essential.
