Job Responsibilities: For Lawyer (APS 5 and APS 6): 1. Deliver high-quality legal services under close supervision and manage day-to-day legal matters. 2. Work collaboratively with senior practitioners on complex legal matters.
3. Organize workflow, conduct specialist or technical research and analysis, and perform procedural, clerical, administrative, or operational tasks. 4. Engage with courts, tribunals, the legal profession, and professional organizations relevant to specific roles. 5. Develop and maintain client relationships, comply with legal service requirements, and support the delivery of new services.
6. Contribute to marketing activities, including presentations, training, and publications. 7. Further develop professional legal expertise and understanding of the organization through participation in development, training, and study opportunities. 8. Supervise or support other practice group members as required.
9. Ensure compliance with the APS Code of Conduct and apply the department's policies in work health and safety, diversity, discrimination, and harassment. For Senior Lawyer (EL1 and EL2): 1. Provide expert legal advice and representation in complex legal matters.
2. Lead and manage teams in delivering legal services to Commonwealth agencies. 3. Develop strategies for handling significant legal issues that impact government and clients. 4. Collaborate with other senior practitioners to coordinate and conduct cases involving complex legal issues.
5. Engage in business development activities to contribute to the commercial success of the legal team. 6. Mentor and develop junior lawyers and support staff. 7. Ensure compliance with professional standards and legal service requirements.
8. Maintain and enhance client relationships and support the delivery of innovative legal solutions.
Education and Experience Information
* Entry in the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia or the roll of barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court of a State or Territory.
* Generally, at least 1-4 years of relevant post-admission experience or equivalent legal experience and knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment.
* Security clearance: Negative Vetting 2.
* Generally, at least years of relevant post-admission experience or equivalent legal experience and knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment.
* Other qualifications and citizenship requirements similar to APS 5.
* Generally, at least 5 years or more post-admission experience and good knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment.
