UNPAID. The Community Preparedness Associate is a volunteer appointment who contributes to the facilitating, arranging, coordinating and administering of preparedness and resilience activities through engagement with the community, the DRA Preparedness team, DRA partner organisations and their Disaster Relief and Recovery Team (DRRT) Associate Director.
The Community Preparedness Associate works under the supervision of Community Preparedness Coordinator to ensure the effectiveness of preparedness and resilience activities in their DRRT.
Key accountabilities
- Lead by example in adhering to DRA’s values of Courage, Respect, Service and Tenacity and support a positive, values‑based culture across the organisation.
- Champion a culture of transparency, integrity and accountability within DRA, embedding organisational values into decision‑making processes at all levels.
- Work collegiately with other teams and stakeholders to pursue DRA’s vision and realise its overarching strategic goals.
- Contribute to identifying opportunities for ARISE Framework initiatives and programs within communities.
- Maintain details of relevant stakeholder details on the Preparedness Stakeholder and Engagement Matrix (or its equivalent).
- Work in collaboration with the Community Preparedness Coordinator and other associates to arrange and deliver work activities in collaboration and consultation with stakeholders, DRRTs, partner organisations and members.
- Assist with the preparation of reports, lessons learned, and recommendations.
- Proactively assist with the coordination of preparedness and resilience activities as agreed, in collaboration and cooperation with the Community Preparedness Coordinator, DRRT Associate Directors and Leadership Teams.
- Undertake scheduling of venues and volunteers, administration and logistics for Preparedness activities and events in collaboration with the Community Preparedness Coordinator.
- Maintain and update program documentation, templates, and resources to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Collate and process data and information from preparedness and resilience event outputs, feedback, and after‑action reviews to support reporting and continuous improvement.
- Liaise with stakeholders, DRA volunteers and staff and partners to support consistent delivery of ARISE programs, events and activities across communities.
- Promote participation and engagement of volunteers in resilience and preparedness activities.
- Assist with the provision of skilled presentations, meetings and engagement activities at community events to promote the ARISE Framework initiatives and programs.
- Contribute to content (stories, photos & video) for inclusion in reports, publications and or social media.
- Respectfully collect reflections from community members who have been assisted by DRA.
- Utilise the Community Connect Kit during interactions with community members and stakeholders.
- Contribute to the building of trusted relationships with community groups and associations, government agencies and partner organisations.
- Participate in Community Preparedness and Community Resilience updates, reporting, check‑ins, meetings, or coordination calls to provide regular updates, as required.
- Collect and record data, reflections, and stories to inform continuous improvement and reporting.
- Contribute to DRA reports, communications, and grant submissions related to Preparedness initiatives.

- Ensure that the appropriate and relevant internal and external stakeholders are informed of activities and connections.
- Contribute to multiple events at any given period and/or over an extended period of time.

- Support consistent delivery standards across a geographically dispersed program.
