Assistant Registrar
We are seeking an Assistant Registrar to join our team and help care for, move and share our collection with the public. In this role, you'll coordinate inward and outward loans, support exhibition registration and ensure objects are handled and documented to the highest standards. You'll collaborate with a wide range of internal teams and external partners, while also contributing to broader collection care activities that keep our programs running smoothly.

* Assistant Registrar Grade 2. Remuneration package includes salary ($89,934 - $99,938), employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Museums of History NSW brings together a portfolio of iconic museums, rich collections and heritage sites, the nation's oldest archive collection, vital recordkeeping services and expert staff.
We bring history to life by sharing the stories of our places and collections. Through the State Archives Collection, we manage NSW's official documentary heritage, supporting government transparency and the public's right to access information.

Museums of History NSW is a state cultural institution, established under the Museums of History NSW Act 2022. It is an agency of the NSW Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport (DCITHS).
What you'll do with us:
Coordinate the exhibition registration function and the inward and outward loans program to ensure the application of best practice, legal, administrative, logistical and physical management of objects. Support collection management functions including registration, stocktake and valuation program and collections care.

What you need to tell us - Targeted questions:
1. Describe a time when you managed a complex inward or outward loan. In your response, outline how you ensured compliance with best‐practice standards across documentation, transport, conservation requirements and communication with stakeholders.
2. This role coordinates exhibition registration and object movement. Provide an example of a time when you maintained accuracy and consistency across collection management databases, object lists, and audit trails, under tight deadlines and when multiple teams were involved.
Essential requirements of the role:
* Tertiary qualifications in history/museums studies/heritage interpretation and related field and experience working in a cultural, museums or heritage environment.
* Demonstrated knowledge of issues and requirements involved in lending and borrowing objects and of appropriate techniques/procedures for handling, display, transportation and storage of museum objects
* Well-developed organisational and planning skills including general administration, workflow and time management.
* Experience working with software applications/databases used to maintain and update collection information.
* Ability to manage lifting, carrying, standing, kneeling and moving around heritage sites, both internal and external environments is a genuine occupational requirement.
* NSW Drivers license and a willingness to work across MHNSW sites and ability to travel to multiple locations.
