The role
MARS Recruitment is partnering with a leading Australian organisation recruit an experienced Payroll Officer for an initial 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of transitioning into a permanent position.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a payroll professional seeking flexibility, offering a 0.8 FTE arrangement, hybrid working, and the chance to join a collaborative team.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function across multiple entities, ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing while providing expert support to employees and stakeholders.
This role would suit someone who enjoys working autonomously, has strong attention to detail, and takes pride in delivering a high-quality payroll service.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-end processing of fortnightly payroll
- Managing superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax, and related statutory obligations
- Maintaining payroll and HR system data integrity
- Responding to payroll queries and providing support to employees and stakeholders
- Processing employee commencements, changes, and terminations
- Preparing payroll reconciliations and maintaining payroll-related ledger accounts
- Ensuring compliance with relevant payroll legislation, awards, and employment obligations
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across payroll processes and systems
- Working closely with Finance and People & Culture teams to ensure seamless payroll operationsProviding functional support and oversight of the payroll system, including business rule maintenance and compliance controls
About You
- Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll in a medium to large organisation
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, superannuation, payroll tax, and employee entitlements
- Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems, with the ability to investigate and resolve payroll issues
- Excellent reconciliation skills and high attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the business
- Proactive, organised, and able to manage competing priorities effectively
- Experience with Aurion will be highly regarded but is not essential
