Community Engagement Officer - MMHC Moruya role at Illawarra Mercury. Grand Pacific Health (GPH) is a for-purpose community-based organisation that provides high quality health services to assist people in managing their physical and mental health. GPH employs over 400 staff across NSW and ACT, with a focus on vulnerable and at-risk populations and regional communities. Medicare Mental Health Centre Moruya is a collaboration between Grand Pacific Health, Directions Health, Katungul Aboriginal Corporation and The Family Place, offering immediate to mid-term care and service navigation to people experiencing psychological distress, their families and carers.
The Community Engagement Officer takes a lead role in promoting and enhancing understanding of the services offered at Medicare Mental Health Centre, Moruya, and mental health more broadly through coordination of community awareness activities. The Officer will work with the Service Manager to represent the Centre at community forums and events and develop local partnerships to ensure the Centre is an integral part of the mental health and wellbeing sector. The position will also lead the Centre's approach to consumer participation. This is a full-time, fixed-term role until 30 June 2026 with an option for a Rostered Day Off each month.
Responsibilities
* Lead the promotion and understanding of Medicare Mental Health Centre services.
* Coordinate community awareness activities and events.
* Represent the Centre at community forums and events.
* Develop and maintain local partnerships to integrate the Centre into the mental health and wellbeing sector.
* Lead the Centre's approach to consumer participation.
Qualifications
* Ter tiary qualification in a relevant discipline, and/or extensive experience in community development, health promotion, public health, social sciences, or education.
* Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate with groups of people (including public speaking), and tailor communication to a target group or age range.
* Demonstrated understanding of health and wellbeing needs of consumers with mental health and/or substance use problems.
* Understanding of the needs of diverse communities including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CALD, and LGBTI communities.
