In Western Australia, Bechtel is supporting exciting capital works programmes in aviation, defence and energy infrastructure, and we are looking for a Design Manager to deliver high-quality design services in and around Perth.
Job Summary
The Design Manager is a key member of the Delivery Partner's team, responsible for planning, coordinating and directing civil/structural activities and ensuring the timely delivery of design work packages produced by third-party engineering consultants and design-and-construct contractors.
Major Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate and direct civil/structural activities, interpreting and organizing road and associated services engineering work.
Work within an integrated project management team and account for timely delivery of design work packages.
Coordinate the review and acceptance of third-party design documents and supply technical information to designers.
Review major changes or deviations in project scope, material quantities, budget or schedule and assist in defining the change.
Lead technical teams, including other architects or project subgroups, for completing specific tasks.
Navigate complex interfaces on large infrastructure projects with multiple design contractors.
Monitor project issues concerning schedule, budget and work quality and provide leadership to resolve problems.
Manage the work efforts of managers or professionals.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and ***** years of relevant experience or ***** years of relevant work experience.
Thorough knowledge of engineering techniques, design of engineered systems, and engineering calculations.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Strong highway industry experience; experience in Australia preferred.
Experience managing design efforts, including third-party designers or engineers on large infrastructure projects.
Ability to engage collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Broad knowledge of highway industry/regulatory codes, design criteria, and project controls.
Technical knowledge of engineering systems, calculations, BIM, 3-D CAD and CAE applications.
Proficient understanding of construction, environmental safety and health, and quality assurance functions.
