Primary objective
Provide technical support to Medical Entomology in the monitoring and control of insects of medical importance.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. To conduct trapping, identification, recording, and reporting of medically important insects.
2. To carry out mosquito field surveys in semi aquatic habitats, involving 4WD vehicles, all-terrain vehicles and
helicopters and to keep records and write reports of these surveys.
1. To carry out mosquito control activities using insecticides.
2. To maintain insect sampling and vector control equipment for the monitoring and control program.
3. To assist in the maintenance of an insect reference collection.
4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality and safe services in workplaces
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Certificate, Associate Diploma or equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience, with biology as a major focus.
1. Experience with the use of computers and good keyboard skills.
2. Experience with insect or other biological specimen identifications for extended periods using a microscope.
3. The ability to work as a member of a small team, communicate effectively and provide effective and timely feedback.
4. To be self-motivated and work under minimal supervision with a high degree of accuracy and reliability and the ability
to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
1. Physical fitness and proven ability and experience with working in difficult field conditions often outside of normal
working hours.
1. Hold a current NT drivers' licence or ability to obtain
Desirable
1. Experience with the use of insecticides and insecticide application equipment.
